Nulpunt to Give Freedom of Information Some Digital Grunt
Every good design project starts with a problem, and one of the biggest is how to find the key facts in a sea of data.
A design studio in Denmark called Metahaven is developing a product called Nulpunt to do two things: Firstly, it tells journalists and activists when their government has published a document holding information they care about, and secondly it lets users highlight, annotate and share the important sections.
AT&T and Verizon don’t want a network that enables us to create, write, make, design, build and sell what we want — without restrictions or the need to ask permission from gatekeepers.
Instead, these companies want an Internet that looks an awful lot like cable television: a place where you get only the news and entertainment that pad ISPs’ profit margins. And they want an Internet that excludes dissident voices.
“I love this resurgence of the GIF that’s going on right now. I think it’s amazing to see what you can come up with when you are forced to be creative in a restrictive environment. This is true for all creative endeavors: If you remove some of the tools that are available to you, it forces you to be extra creative with the tools that remain.”
